The fox-colored plant matter on the ground is from the backyard Dawn Redwood ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metasequoia_glyptostroboides ) a spectacular, towering, *deciduous* redwood tree.

i have 2 of these. when we first bought the house 27 years ago the couple we bought it off of didn't know what it was and it took us a few years to figure it out by taking a cutting to a huge local arboretum. maybe 10 years ago i bought a second one. it is majestic!
