When people cheer Mangione, watch for tons of pearl-clutching about norms from people who absolutely reject and ignore both norms and actual laws. They seek to impose standards they don’t follow. They’d never apply those norms and standards to Trumpism.

The words and actions of America’s leaders show they believe that having dark skin or having a vagina is a reason a person shouldn’t be allowed to pilot a plane, while having a drinking or drug problem is not. That’s their priority, and they’re fine with the flying public suffering the consequences.

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.
