As always, no bylines or attribution for headlines, subheds, framing, or "social sell" — even though that is all most readers will ever see.

FYI: Most times when I comment on a NYT piece it's bc the headline is misleading/just a lie.
Who do they think invented, for example, computing and the internet? Who does all the basic research for things like pharmacology? Private industry? Like hell. It just benefits. For free.
Now, some other possible headlines that would fit same space, match just as well with the data in the piece, and convey an entirely different impression. And—my opinion— say more about what the realities actually are.
Entire rest of world envies this US model.

It's why the GOP has spent decades telling people to be concerned with only themselves, that the hoarding of wealth and information is good, and that education is a waste
That's how you destabilize a country to make way for a kakistocracy
The rich could give money to the government or to an institution that put their name on its buildings. As the tax rate went down, the less they invested in the public good.
