I had this conversation with a student last week. Love the kid, but he responds to anything that goes on in the room. He said, “but I’m getting straight A’s.” I agreed, but the rest of the class isn’t. He still thinks of the same things , but will save them (or rush to me to tell me his quip.)

My kid-brain didn’t make the connection that my joking around was disruptive to the rest of my class, but you make a good point. There was some discussion that I was bored/not being challenged enough and that maybe they should skip me to the next grade. (I was reading at a level three grades ahead.)
