I suspect biology will win out there, but as a Brit and regular visitor for work & leisure, I can say that the US as a destination for either, or as an overseas college option for our daughter, just fell off a cliff. And the brain drain of scientists, creatives & thinkers: already underway :-(
I was in 8th during the shooting at Columbine; in 11th during 9/11; had my first teaching job and apartment when the market crashed; experienced attacks on public education as a teacher; & saw climate change get worse. Trump’s election just confirmed that I made the right choice to not have kids!
I used to want great-grandkids but whit what I see my grandkids going through, all 5 in young to middle 20’s, I can’t blame them. I’d actually rather they wouldn’t.
I would be very scared to be pregnant right now. And as a person who wanted to have kids her whole life, this would have been a terrible predicament. (My kids are 22 and not ready to have their own, but I would imagine this will be a hard decision for them too.)
In my 20 yr friendship w/a German woman, no visit went by w/o talking about nazis. Her refrain was, It could happen here! My hair was on fire when Trump, the bully w/ Russian ties emerged in 2015. Then her forgotten warning came back to me this week......Don't you DARE let your kids have children!
My daughter - and it breaks my heart, but I 100% agree. If I had known this is the country my children would be adults in -- I wouldn't have had them. This is horrifying every single day.
Me and my husband already have 2 kids. We were debating having a third for the past year but since trump got elected we decided we wouldn't until he got out of office (if he ever does)
Told all 3 of our adult children they should move to Norway, Denmark, Japan, or Netherlands. The thought of any of their kids being raised here is horrifying.
I don’t know what she’s decided, but my 29 year old daughter’s getting married this year. Oxford MBA, both parties highly successful. I’m truly hoping that they wait or gtfo of this country before starting a family.
I wanted to be a grandparent so bad, but now if my daughter doesn't have a child I'm ok with it. She will inherit my meager estate at on point in time & if she wants to donate it all to PBS when her time comes then so be it. Soviet America will not be worth living in at that time.
2 of my 3 sons do not want to bring any kids into this world, because of what’s going on now and in the future. If I was their age I would think the same thing.
We opted for permanent birth control during Trump 1 because we suspected it would become hard to get bc. We adopted. No regrets. I would not bring a child into this world
I have heard this from young people and can you blame them? Even if their children manage to escape indentured servitude at the hands of the oligarchy, climate change will make their lives a literal living hell.
When Trump was first elected I made moves to get my child other options....she's now on the verge of citizenship and doing well in Canada, thank goodness.
I made that decision 20 years ago, haven't regretted it at all. I used to think I did, but now, I'm really glad I didn't. I worry for my nieces and nephews, some of them now at adulthood. One is talking about having children now (she's not even 21...my brother is a Trumper) and she's oblivious. ☹️
Project 2025 has plans for women who don’t want to have children. Unmarried, nulliparous women will become an unseen subdivision of society, of little to no value. Ostracised. Frighting.
