I used to enjoy Disney Plus, but now there is nothing but a trickle of new content, usually spaced out by a month, and even higher prices.
They’re already setting the stage to start jamming ads into the “ad-free” tier, and commercial tiers will start looking like FX with 3 to 1 program to ads.
Hmmm. It was intriguing but forgettable, and it felt like one of the mediocre productions that truly slumped Marvel’s win streak. Great visuals though!
Right?? If you're looking for more, the game we play has soon to be two plural characters, starting in a couple months! (full disclosure, it's a gacha)
As a narrative piece, okay it was decent. It would have helped if Moon Knight was... *actually in it* though. Out of ~6 hours, in-suit screen time was only 6 *minutes*. Steven Grant looking confused or in a panic: 1hr:48min. The showrunner didn't understand the assignment.
Thank you...glad to see someone else was disappointed with it. That wasn't anywhere near what I was expecting or wanting from a Moon Knight project. I could see how people that don't know the character might like it, but that wasn't the Moon Knight I know.
I'm thinking MCU is starting to understand that they're losing their comic-centric audience w/ the zany-wacky stylizations. I read that after the last Thor, they're thinking less comedy. I'd like to see that continue, they need to pivot to a darker R theme and stop w/ the joke-a-minute whack pack.
So, my point is more or less that 6 hrs of character exposition, no matter how well done & MK was very well done in that regard, sacrificed action for narrative. The series traded the (90's style comic) darker & grittier tone of action/combat (Punisher) to explore morality & psych complexity.
Okay, but Moon Knight was patterned after Batman & Punisher. The guy is literally using machine guns, swords, double pistols, and the occasional rocket launcher 😅 Granted, about 15 years ago he became more like Spiderman/Cap. I think the series was modeled about MK 2016 or so tho... anyway.
I mean, if you read the comics it's a lot of that too. The point of him is that when he's on, he's ON, but he's off a fair amount of time for the reasons inherent to his affiliation with Konshu.
For sure, the in depth conflict that defines what MK is was certainly addressed in the series and was done well. I think though, I mean, there's a point where you need Iron Man to be Iron Man, and not drunk disillusioned Tony Stark. For a comic, great, for a series/movie ehhhh. MK needed the same.
Well it was necessary character development, and this series explored all that as best it could and still give him 'suit time' enough to fill your imagination about his future endeavors. I liked that it was fairly limited, like how 'Alien' limited the amount of time you see the monster.
Yeah I don't disagree and good point on the Alien comparison. In horror, I agree, showing the 'monster' tips the hand I think. I did watch all 6 episodes of MK, so engaging yes, I just felt it lacked in suit/fight scenes & they could have reduced panic-face scenes by 5000% 😅
Keep in mind, Grant is 'at least' three different people, and we only get the merest glimpse of the third personality (the assasin) at the very end... and this is what Konshu ends up doing to all of his avatars with time.
I see this series now as a character introduction. It's very integral for new time viewers to know his backstory and I loved how the show fleshed all of that out in this 1 season, while leaving the Jake door open. But agreed, I think more action may have helped! Isaac's performance is incredible.
There's something to be said about how Cannell approached the A-Team in the 80's... "Don't spend 10 episodes on character exposition, just start blowing stuff up and flipping cars over, it's what they want. Then maybe later, one of them is upset for a minute, but then you have to crash a car".
I think it all depends on the viewer! I think that works for some, others not so much. I am definitely a bigger fan of character growth and exploration, especially because I read a lot of fantasy books and I find the most pay off is from conflict resolutions, oftentimes internally.
Sure, I can appreciate a deep character dive as well. Hmm how can I put this… from the comic perspective, it’s as if they made a Batman series today, but went back to the 60’s campy TV version but used his modern look of today. That’s how far off it was.
I've heard this actually! That is fair for sure. I do hope they give him some more stuff, tho. I would love to see some Midnight Sons action! I feel like they are preparing for that.
It was a completely original and bonkers show, and I LOVED it.
It's rare to find shows so creatively strange, and you just need to embrace it. The multiple personalities, the Egyptian hippopotamus-headed goddess Tawaret -- truly crazy good.
Moon Knight was absolutely my tween kid’s favorite Marvel thing (movie or show). I loved the overall vibe (bc I ❤️ Egypt), I loved Tawaret (bc it’s kind of cool to see a non-abusive deity dispensing power), and I LOVED Layla / Scarlet Scarab.
It was okay, I wasn't a fan of a lot of the cg, the practical stuff looked better.. I was actually kinda intrigued by Konshu's role.. sad it only had a season to cram things into it. Rushing never helps.
3 years?! wtf? How?!
I really enjoyed that series, sad it’s not got anything more especially with the little cliff hanger of his newest person to show his face
Some good acting. Mythology background touched but not really used. Seemed a bit unsure whether it wanted to be a comedy or a superhero series. All in all watchable for not great. Would rate as one of the weaker Agents of Shield seasons imho if you need a point of reference.
Disagree entirely. It was one of the strongest series imho. Great characters with a wonderfully cerebral story. It has a slow start and seems cheesy until it gets into it.
Haven't seen it, but all the "I know not everyone liked it, but I thought it was..." comments is all the endorsement I need. I definitely fit into the "not everyone" category, and will probably love it.
If you’re looking for a change from the “extended universe” it’s a great fit! There’s only a few mentions of the MCU elements at large but it has a lot of fun concepts and can feel a bit dark at times which I enjoyed. Kinda its own thing. Also if you’re a fan of Egyptian mythology it’s a shoe in!
I was so confused for the first eight episodes. It had six. Who was who? When was he this guy or that guy? What was his problem? Who was the good guy? Who did or didn’t have powers?
Ohhhhhhh thx for letting me know.
Nice costumes though.
The paradigm of “one good fight and lots of meh”’ — which we get in Moon Knight and The Batman — is better than “no good fights.” But we should be doing better at this point. Spartacus showed you could keep the plot moving and still delivery big-screen-quality action every week.
So the first fight scene against the gang members, the scene when he forces his way into the Iceberg Lounge, the dark hallway with the flashes of gunfire intermittently showing the fight, AND the fight at the end atop the jumbotron in the arena - NONE of those are good fight scenes?
One of the most badass moments ever when May Calamawy/Layla El-Faouly unfolded her wings in one swift motion for the first time. Holy Cow! I cheered, standing ovation!
This was a gem, and the rare standalone from Marvel that didn't feel the need to connect to everything else in the MCU. It wasn't perfect, but it was definitely enjoyable. Oscar Isaac was having an amazing time on screen, and it was a joy to see
moon knight is just a bad rip off of batman they had to make him insane and have magic just so they can say he's not batman. the show suck, all it was about was egyptain mythology and a taking hippopotamus .
He's nothing like batman though? He isnt rich, he has personality disorder, he's more of an anti hero than a vigilante. He didnt even know he became a different person when being "moon knight"

And I even endured more Iron Fist to rewatch Defenders, so I have form.

Sit back and enjoy the ride.
