Slightly off topic question: I’m not a Dem, but I keep hearing the Dems abandoned their base, and lost. As a former Rep, abandoned the base isn’t “a thing”. R’s vote R if they are 10% in agreement. D’s stay home or vote Ind if they’re only 75% in agreement. Why?

I think the dems are a much broader coalition than the GOP, harder to keep together. There are some who expect 100 percent agreement for them to consider you on their side.

I love this podcast! I 💯 agree with @amandacarpenter.bsky.social about Trump being so much stronger because he didn’t win in 2020. I posed the question a couple of weeks ago about whether we’d have been better off now if he’d won four years ago.

The reason Dems present themselves differently than Republicans is because Dems are interested in governing and improving the country. Republicans are interested in increasing their power so they can enrich their egos and their wealth.

I think the simplest explanation is that many people see Election Day in 2 and 4 years as the next day they can do something about it, and in the meantime they have mental health to preserve.
