Just any fyi, if you want to help a mutual get their news, message, or just a cute thing out into the bluesky, reshare them. Hearting them doesn't do this because there is no algorithm here. Get into the habit of reposting to boost others.

It's just something I saw someone else post and I shared it but I would make a post too because everyone is new and figuring things out. And thanks for the share. I appreciate it.
I'm pretty sure there actually is some kind of algorithm but it's not what we're used to. It seems to be showing me things I want to see because it keeps dumping new bunny people into my feed. But teach it what you want to see and you'll definitely get more of it.
If you're in the discover feed you can click the 3 dots next to it and one of the options in there will be to tell you to show you more or less like that. So you can actually specifically tweak it more to what you want.
I didn't realize that! As an elder (LOL) my default is still Follow, but even that seems to have changed a bit. I don't like algorithms having control over what I see *grumble grumble*
That one, apparently, the likes teach it about you. Someone replied and let me know that. Sharing boosts other people. But the feeds belong to individual accounts, so they work however they were set up. Some need hashtags. Some will catch posts without needing hashtags. There's a lot going on.
This is true on the default timeline and lists. But it is worth knowing that many (most?) of the custom feeds (like the ones I run) do have an algorithm that includes likes as an input when filtering/sorting/ranking, and many of these feeds ignore reposts.
I have a lot of new mutuals, who I am not sure understand the feeds or have even subscribed to many at this point. Or know how to hashtag to be included. I don't think I am going to break anyone of the liking habit but we don't share each other enough by comparison.
yeah, I'm not arguing about reposts, I'm just saying that (unlike mastodon) likes do matter here. and, you don't have to include hashtags to be included in feeds. for ex: A large percentage of my mutuals do use one of my feeds which doesn't require a tag and uses likes in ranking.
Yep. When building a feed you start with the entire Bsky firehose and can filter it however you want, requiring a hashtag is a common way to build a simple feed.
I think hearting tells Bluesky what type of content that you, personally, would like to see more of. You make a good point though! I see reposts from people I've followed & end up following them too. :)
If he gets 20k followers here, he'll start posting here. It's all about rescuing street dogs :) Feel good stories when they get rehomed :) @niallharbison.bsky.social

For the time being, I'm watching and learning more than being active. Tips like this are helpful.
People with older accounts don't have it as their default feed, and possibly don't have it at all unless they add it - I'm not sure.
So lots of elders posting like OP, but not entirely accurate.
Reposting is the way if you want to support. 👍
Reading your post on RFKjr. now. WOW.

different than the Trending page we’re all used to, but nice way to see what’s going on:
