But don't ever forget, Trump and JD Vance and the rest of the MAGA goons would like nothing more than to violently crush protests. I don't believe they lust to kill protestors, but they sure as hell won't regret doing so.

It's a miracle it didn't happen during BLM in 2020. Trump is more insane now

Lack of anonymity is the key to their power.

In the Kent State era, the movement was cloaked in secrecy. The Feds had no clue who 90% were.

Please be aware that tying masks (particularly medical ones) strictly to anonymous protest hurts those who still wear them for health reasons. Mask bans and an uptick of harassment happened after the Gaza protests.

The student protest movements did not overthrow LBJ. You have to credit General Giap & the Tet Offensive for that result. Though the Anti-War movement did seem to make Nixon insane enough to organize a break-in of the DNC, he won a landslide election running on the first culture war platform.

Back then it was the Vietnam War, the draft, thousands dead, napalm, agent orange, student deferments. occupying campus admin offices... what's the comparable situation now? These kids actually had some skin in the game, literally. The prospect of dying in the jungle.

The fascist purging of universities, scholarships and federal loans ended, economy crashing, police state excesses, the planet burning. None of this is "skin in the game"?

Paris 1968 was also a mass protest that topped (temporarily) the De Gaulle regime. France wasn't in the Vietnam War then.
