Are these different fires due primarily to the winds carrying embers? Or like the one known, are they likely arson? Thank you to all who are helping each other out there. Thank you to the brave Mexican Firefighters helping. Thank you Canada for assistance. Peace Love & Safety to All in CA.
Sorry to ask, but how is it possible to have so many fires in different places? It's like dry air plus wind means instant ignition, except it's never that easy when you want to light a barbecue.
The speed of the winds and the dry conditions pf both the air of the brush as well as the closeness of the buildings and homes made it perfect conditions for it to spread.
But that would produce one big single fire area, not many differents, which is what I can see in this map. Is the map wrong? are the fire areas connected o the wind jumped from one area to another one without burning what's in the middle? honest question. tnx
I don’t have an answer for how or why they started. All I can tell you is why they got so big and why the were able to grow so fast. As to why there are some in so many different areas, that I can’t speculate on. Hoping it isn’t arson but we can’t rule it out.
I get that part. I just can't get how the dry air + wind + whatever, spreaded fire from Palisades to Altadena without touching Glendale or Burbank. Wind goes one way, right? Was it one single starting spot or many? I'm not speculating anything, just asking. Is it a subversive question?
Really not important, but how do the fires get named? Is it like hurricanes where the annual list of names is prepared and they just get assigned alphabetically? Or, do they refer to some geographic marker?
According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, "Cal Fire," fires are often named for their geographic location. Nearby landmarks, like roads, lakes, rivers and mountains, can also become the fire's namesake.
Thanks for reaching out. Red cross , Salvanation army. The usual groups. Its tough from a distance, but thanks for taking the time. We are all in this together. Johnny T
I was heartbroken when Paradise caught in fire. When stationed at Beale, I would take my kids to Paradise for an outing. I thought the fires would end after the devastation there. When my son lived near LA we visited many of the area parks, etc. Yet many still deny climate change.
I’m deeply saddened by the devastating impact the fires are having here in California. So many lives have been affected—not just through the loss of homes, but in countless other ways as well. My hearts go out to everyone facing these challenges.
Businesses impacted by the fires can reach out to EMBA to connect you with resources on recovery and support programs by sending an email to [email protected].

No sleep and the sound of sirens and helicopters for days is waring me down. It feels like a war zone.
Its looking like the first three big ones were triggered by electrical infrastructure. The rest are because high winds + embers being carried. Its not likely arson.
This is so devastating. I am hoping all our fire crews from Canada can make a difference and help save lives. God and Mother Nature be with you California!!
I agree. It's the very reason they ran out of water. L.A. county had more than enough water to contain 1 huge fire. But not enough to contain 6-7 huge fires burning at the same time.
I'm a SoCal native.
Lived all over LA area.
This year is obviously worse than usual.
But, this happens every year, going back Millennia!
DON'T BUILD and DON'T ALTER the natural flora.
The LA basin is surrounded by a "horseshoe" of foothills. If all these areas have fire in them there is no place for the smoke to go. The basin will fill up to the point where you can't see your nose in front of your face & it chokes your lungs. That's a secondary issue LA will to have to deal with.
I grew up right at Eaton Canyon, near the old Mt. Wilson to Henniger Flat. It is a narrow mouth of the canyon, amplifying Santa Ana winds down toward Altadena. It is easily accessible and an obvious spot for arson. Are the other fires north and at canton mouths?
I’ve lived in SoCal for 49 years. Lived through droughts, mudslides, earthquakes, El Niño floods, riots, you name it. Nothing has been as frightening and overwhelming as this. Fires in January? Unheard of.
There has been no lightning, no fallen electrical wires, no camping areas at the points of origin of the serial canyon fires, each within hundreds of yards of populated areas. I suspect you are right.
Fred, among topics swirling around these fires is rebuilding. How to improve our quality of life, how to face climate change. Building underground... or into the ground whenever possible helps in places that get fires and tornados. People all want walkable neighborhoods. We -could- think really big.
Unthinking people can start fires by throwing a butt out the car window, having a bbq or campfire. Sparks from a train and lightning strikes can also start fires.
We need to start calling them the Trump fire, the Elon fire, the Hegseth fire, the ramaswammy fire… the junior fire, etc. keep those names in the news instead of the distractions of Greenland, Panama, Mexico, Canada threats! That’s all subterfuge
North SFV here. Many of these smaller fires are partially or completely contained at this point (9:00 am PST). But the Palisades and Eaton fires are still burning, only partial containment and we are looking at gusty winds over the weekend.
And the problem is everything EXCEPT climate change. We don't even want to mention that climate change is causing a drought and causing this mess! Don't mention it.
It sure is! It’s disgusting that this has turned into a game of political piñata. Meanwhile the tragedies of lost lives and homes continue to escalate. Go ahead Shit Demon and play politics, but please wait til we bury our dead. You stink figuratively and literally!
It shocks me that the loss of life isn’t close to the 102 lost in the Hawaii fire despite being multiple and much larger fires. The acreage burned in California is what, 20X?, greater? Instead of criticizing LA’s response, maybe some more gratitude in an overwhelming crisis is in order.
My daughter had to evacuate in Topanga Canyon then had to evacuate again last night from her friends house due to the Kenneth fire. She is back home in NorCal safe and sound thank goodness.
I lived in Los Angeles for 20 years and these wildfires are absolutely the worst fires they’ve had due to hurricane force winds. Literally a hurricane fire. 😢
its not an area designed for that many people in the first place. yes climate change is a factor but its a burn ecology and cramming millions into it is something only humans would do. sorry for all of them but man we need to learn from this. now lets do phoenix and vegas.
Fred may I guess that you don’t live in LA? This happens in some form every year. This one is huge fueled by unprecedented wind. It is very real. But it doesn’t snow. We like that. Wish it would rain more.
Thankfully Trump, Republicans, and the oil industry says this Dante’s Inferno has NOTHING to do with global warming 😮💨
My heart breaks for all the suffering our denials is causing 😢
I hope that they are able to get control of these fires. I live in British Columbia. We have had many wildfires in the past years. It’s heartbreaking to see how quickly our lives can change. Keeping LA in our thoughts. 🙏
A little fire broke out on the 118 freeway and people were jumping out of the cars with gallon jugs of water. All the firefighters are busy. It’s like a war zone, I could see the flames from the Palisades all the way from the 118.
There has to be more to these fires than there saying . There know way Santa Ana winds can start all these fires in all different direction I am all for climate change .Gangs have to be lighting these fires also that’s looting stars and people home . This is sad heartbreaking for everyone 🌹🌹🌹🙏🙏
The news said they had homeless man tied up for lighting fires .Down town la they reported they had fires before all these fires started . . Google it .

I’m trying to find out from @cagovernornewsom.bsky.social why all of the prescribed burns happen in NorCal?
the dry conditions of both the air and of the brush
A few that kept popping up in the SFV (arson?), they were able to get control of very quickly.
I would like to thank our CA firefighters & every firefighter that came to help.
According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, "Cal Fire," fires are often named for their geographic location. Nearby landmarks, like roads, lakes, rivers and mountains, can also become the fire's namesake.
Maybe we need to write some laws warn people that with high winds they can start wildfires and if proven they can be liable for damages.
I also think the private firefighter stuff is making things worse.

Not enough evidence to link the guy but he was kept on a separate violation.
I think it’s arson too.
How horrible is it that I have to say "at least it's happening right now and not after January 20th"
sigh
It happens EVERY f'n year.
It's like people that live in "Tornado Alley" shocked that there's tornados.

This year is far from typical. It’s tragic regardless of the why.
But, people acting so
"shocked" is utterly ridiculous
Personally I can’t recall a time this many homes were lost in the area. Can you?
The level of human devastation IS SHOCKING!
But this helped me understand the nuances of the Santa Ana winds.

Nonsense like this is how conspiracy theories get started.
From there it's a short step to some MAGAt saying Black Gangs started all the fires, they probably already are on Leon's Lie Factory
So if you have any evidence share it.
You should follow up that with MAGA!!!
If you don’t think Civic War hasn’t already started, you aren’t paying attention.
