So bonza Or-strayans could cover themselves in glorious sacrifice in the Dardanelles and something something birth of the nation, if local public memory is to be believed 😒
It's a serious argument. The logistics of mobilisation, once put in train *pun*, were very hard to stop. Nicholas II had second thoughts but was told it was too late: the trains were on their way. Harvest cycles were important too. If you didn't act, there was immense pressure to push on not let
... reserves go back for the harvest. These things were a big factor in the East. Lots of good discussion in books on the Austro-Hungarian and Russian armies & the military history of the Eastern front. Also re Habsburg forces - momentum needed to keep multinational units together.
I still don't fully get it. Something about changing their minds about going to war but it was too late to stop them because the troops were on trains. You couldn't just send a guy on a horse to say "my bad, we didn't like Franz either, truce".

Multiple Aristocracies promoted imperial expansionism through war.
Another factor was those political philosophies which promoted revolt and/or anarchy through war.
Many people and/or states were looking for a fight.
Sow to the wind and reap the whirlwind.
You’re welcome.
I will take no further questions at this time.
Even Lt George knows that.
