They’ve always done this, usually when I message a new person I get an alert saying my account has engaged in suspicious activity and I have to do a weird tiring test to get it working again
Lots of people on visas that would require them to leave the US or already have another job that can take supporting the visa before they quit and are stuck in a difficult situation as a result. Why do you think he is so adamant about expanding tech visa programs.
I find it not at all a coincidence that the guy who had a decade of DMs on Twitter has turned over the US Govt to Musk and seems to defer to him at every juncture
Meta has an E2EE option and Bluesky is working on it… but yeah, use Signal or iMessage (as long as you have iCloud ADP available to you and turned on, which you also need to ensure device backups with Signal chats in them are encrypted.)
FYI, the way this works is the reporting user’s app sends a decrypted copy of the chat to Meta’s safety team. They don’t have access to E2EE unless a report is made, but the other users aren’t told if it was!
So it is a type of back door, but it’s one that must be triggered by someone in the chat.

I'm sure encrypted DMs on Twitter in the end will end up being just as successful and ubiquitous as the hyperloop.
I've never felt better about a decision.
Lol
If it’s not end to end encrypted, assume SOMEBODY is reading it, or at least feeding it to a system that looks for specific things.
And yes, that currently applies to DMs here too.
If any party in the chat reports the chat, Meta gets access to it.
It has to work this way because Messenger is part of Meta and accounts are shared across their social media platforms.
And social media has to have moderation.
So it is a type of back door, but it’s one that must be triggered by someone in the chat.
