If this doesn't encapsulate the con that white supremacy has always been, I'm not sure what could or would. This has always been about white country club-ish crony capitalism and never, ever being straightforward about their goals cause they gotta con ppl to get them on-board.

In 1860 three of the richest and most politically well-connected white men in Barbour County, AL were appointed generals in the Confederate army despite having no military experience. That worked out about as well as one could guess.
