I left Penn the year the Chronicle counted Black faculty nationally (2021). I was one of 21 tenured Black women.
Here at Michigan, 3.2% of the faculty are Black. 4.5% of our students are Black or of African descent.

It's as if critics are not operating within objective reality.
But a lot of it is this: they do NOT want this hassle. Academia is no picnic, and now that it's politicized from the outside? They want balanced, HAPPY lives.
But in occupations where there are clear objective success metrics, such as elite athletes and entertainers, the minority % is higher than the whole population. 🤔
Then I said eff this ish and left academia.
