It's beyond Obama. The bigger truth is about Black progress in America in the 20th/ 21st century-- Black advancement helps open the doors for so many other marginalized groups to rise. They want to kill the path of govt/educational/ career advancement for EVERYONE not white, straight, and male.

It’s true for undergrads as well—enrollment climbs during recessions.

This was me. Went to get my masters in 2010. Had to get it anyways, but the bleak economy made it a timely decision to do so. The fact that this might not be an option for young people - wild.

Internalize that the United States as we understood it on January 19, 2025 is gone. We are in the midst of rewriting the rules and reconstructing society *right now* and must adjust accordingly. There is no going back, so we must imagine and think forward

In NYT's defense that's also how they view Black employees

At least 12 universities now have hiring freezes and nearly 30 have cut PhD admissions this year If you hear of other places you can add them to this google doc:

And, many people ride out recessions in grad school... I remember the larger cohort sizes after the Great Recession hit. Career changers AND those who couldn't find a good job post-undergrad sought graduate education between 2008 & 2012 (and beyond). I'm concerned that won't be an option this time.

Pitt, Penn, & Vanderbilt, with a deluge more sure to come. Can you imagine being 22, having done some HS online in Covid, struggling but succeeding in a BA/BS during the last few years, finally being accepted into a PhD program, then these Nazis dash those dreams too?! As always, cruelty=the point.

The extraction that brought about these advancements in infrastructure in China is happening at the behest of American capitalists, too, but we're not getting the advancements.

Remembered that I wrote about how awful Woodrow Wilson's historic segregationist purge of Black workers from federal government jobs was last year.... www.thedailybeast.com/woodrow-wils...

The r&b classics station on prime is keeping me tied to capitalism & yall gonna have to eat me with the rich cause this channel is my life now.

Not sure if any UCLA grad students follow me but CSW'a Black Feminism Initiative's Grad Fellowship applications are open til 2/28. I was honored to have 1 of the fellowships named after me a few years ago alongside my friend and comrade Alisa Bierria. Apply! opportunitydesk.org/2025/02/15/c...

Did you know there’s a whole spectrum of stuff in between “spend all weekend cleaning your house” and “don’t do anything at all because it’s so overwhelming”? Wipe down one counter. Put away half a load of laundry. Vacuum one room. You can do a little bit, and it helps! And then you can stop!

Do not give in to preemptive fear. Do not obey in advance.

Not all heroes wear capes 🤣🔥

Finished last night.

Cause Black people ain't trying to sacrifice ourselves so *they* can get back to normal

I don’t even know where to begin with this one youtu.be/QGsxIJdTKkk?...

‘ABBOTT ELEMENTARY’ wins Outstanding Comedy Series at the NAACP Image Awards.

Social Security has a payment accuracy rate of over 99 percent. Only 0.3 percent of Social Security benefits are improper payments, which are typically caused by mistakes or delays. That's better than any private insurance company. www.cbpp.org/blog/setting...

VICE: 'COVID Killed So Many Americans That Social Security Shot Up $205 Billion' 'The study also bleakly hints that people dealing with long COVID are likely going to have to drop out of the workforce eventually...' www.vice.com/en/article/c...

Social Security needs to be more robust, but that will not happen because the elites of this country HATE IT. They’ve hated and fought it since it’s inception.

🧵 If you haven't already done this, do it NOW even if you are not receiving any form of Social Security at this point: 1. Set up a mySocialSecurity account 2. If you are a recipient, download the Benefit Verification letter 3. I recommend you use login.gov rather than id.me.

I think it’s not helpful to repeat claims that the administration is working on eliminating “DEIA” as though it’s some kind of corporate strategy; just say explicitly that they’re trying to eliminate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and explain how.

🕊🙏🏾 Damn, this hits hard. I was listening to The Impressions earlier this morning while cleaning up around the house. The Heavenly Choir is gaining a new and smooth as ice voice. Rest well, brother.

Another legend has left us. Rest easy, sir, and thanks for the music.

I still want a six minute or longer version of this song...

Y'all pause for a moment... listen to the original and then listen to this version... open.spotify.com/track/6SRgXM...

Q: is there a hashtag for those of us who spend Saturdays cooking, cleaning, chillin & listening to oldies? If so, @ me!

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Also if you feel strongly about Eric Adams, you should call your city councilmember to express that and ask for their position. You’d be surprised. Hochul’s stance is highly disappointing but it doesn’t come from nowhere. Press all your electeds. City elections are in 5 months. Ask candidates too.
