This one is already one of my favorite of your videos is a long time. I hope you do a lot more accessibility tech, it's such a refreshing change from the usual gadgets, not least because it's an area that still has so much genuine innovation.
You know, if you used alt-text, not only would it stop people from misinterpreting your image, it would allow disabled people to engage with your content, which you seem to at least pretend to care about.
I know people who work at Fremont, they threw together a top floor manufacturing area a couple months ago. Purely marketing. If these did anything they would actively be being tested in the factory. They aren't, Teslas are still being manufactured by the lowest level hourly people in California.
The people who are actually leaders in this tech, Boston Dynamics, have only just made it to the testing portion by partnering with Hyundai, and they still won't have a retail model for 10 years. This is pure, 99 in a school zone, bullshit.
This was amazing. Hope to see a lot more on accessibility tech in addition to the existing popular tech videos. While I am not a user for accessibility tech but your audience reach will ensure more and more actual users will benefit. I am sure majority was not even aware of the Bionic hand.
It's so insane how the first thing I thought was... "Awesome, more options for amputees" and the comments are "Why do we need this; people are making technology to replace humans" junk like it's Westworld.
Some is cynicism, some is because tech companies already break the laws in most places by violating the user’s privacy to a concerning degree. Social media companies in particular. The use is limited, post are public. What else do they need to keep people safe?
When I was young, before the world wide web, it was common sense that for-profit companies would never give anything away for nothing. People always asked, "what's the catch?". Sometimes it was for publicity, or samples to create demand, or maybe you got scammed into a magazine subscription...
In the modern era, it should be common sense that any free online service makes money from your activity and interests data. Period. It might be with targeted ads but it's more likely data collected to sell. That's the catch and what we all should be AGREEING to. If not, don't use the free service.
Not saying it's right, but it should be obvious. People make products to make money, usually. If you don't want it to happen, just use open source software promising security in its terms of service.
And if you know of a company breaking the law with illegal terms of service, or is breaking the terms of service, I really recommend you contact an attorney because that sounds like an easy windfall in a class action lawsuit or settlement.
Maybe you yourself could get some money if you're so sure!
The problems with any of this stuff like machine learning has never been that there were zero good applications for it, it's that it can also be used to enshittify things.
I am happy for anyone who needs a prosthetic limb but I can't blame anyone else for being negatively polarized at this point
Most intelligent and/or educated people can use logic and/or critical thinking skills to judge the value of individual items within a category; also such people understand that new technology is crude and imperfect in its early stages in its development to be positively transformative in society.
True, when they stop and think about it for a bit.
I can both realize that the technology is a boon for some with disabilities, and understand the initial emotional reaction-- especially when, to be fair, the initial picture doesn't offer much clue to which context it is.
To my point of cynicism... Reactionary emotions without logic or research.
On the opposite end of the spectrum there might be a picture of a transgender person holding a child by the hand and a right wing reactionary freaking out saying TRANS PEOPLE STEALING CHILDREN TO INDOCTRINATE and such
That's too bad, more poisoned rivers it is. By the time we incorporated it was too late to have done something other than poison the rivers to acquire the energy to keep us from subjugating ourselves. But at least we are poisoning this planet to get to a planet that doesn't have an atmosphere.
Cuw, I wanted to tell you I am INCREDIBLY impressed that you changed your mind when presented with new information. That shit is FAR too rare these days. Huge, huge props, man. Huge. Well done.

And Marques is with them now!
But... bright side.. almost certainly an improvement of leadership for the U.S.
This app really has a lot of cynicism 😂
Again, common sense to protect yourself.
Maybe you yourself could get some money if you're so sure!
