Whenever I see adults focused on their phones ignoring the children they have with them in pushchairs, I think about how they may one day be sitting in wheelchairs, ignored while their adult children focus on their phones.

The kids will use anything to hold against their ear and pretend phone or tap on a surface. They imitate what they see.
The only way them not doing it is to not have anyone with a phone around them.
A bit like Sleeping Beauty and pointy things. Didn’t help in the end either.

Obviously, the answer is to be better examples, yes. But these toys reinforce the reality they see and lower the threshold. So I believe we must be more aware about both.

I'm told by someone in their mid-30s that Gen Z likes (needs?) to be multiply connected at all times. Phone at meal times. Phone even when on theme park rides. It would be easy to be critical - but it is, I am told, just how it is, with phone available to children as young as 4.

I agree that it would be futile to ignore this societal change - you can't undo it. We need to be more critically aware of what we're doing & handling it better. Making use of its advantages while curbing its damages. A bit like eating, but well. We still need to eat, but ensure we avoid junk food.
