This made me smile: On 30 April, everywhere in Germany people host dances & parties to welcome May. In nearby Heiligenhaus, I saw a poster for one such dance on the 30th. They called it: "Thirty Dancing" 😁

I follow UK politics, but admit this is the 1st time I looked up the shadow cabinet. Some names I know, others are new. Can I just say (after witnessing what she did while in government) that it's appalling & embarrassing in equal measure that Priti Patel has the Foreign Office shadow brief.

Now, I haven't been back to England for a while, but it was my impression that the Johnson/Sunak/Truss legacy has pretty much put people off alt-right, libertarian, right-wing populism. From Germany, Ms Badenoch & her merry men are very much a thing of the past now. Am I wrong?

We pay politicians well for their effort, long hrs, responsibility, & to immunise them from bribes (or so the theory), so I don't begrudge them these. But every time they cross the line, it's not just a personal disappointment, it also erodes people's trust in democracy & their representatives. 1/2

I know democracy means majority votes, but I do wonder how this is? A partisan leader can choose not to represent, in this case, ~68% of the electorate. [especially, when poorly checked by Congress]
