I joined a couple of hundred people at the Reagan Building in DC to show appreciation for USAID employees who had come to collect their personal belongings. 1/

Thank you so much for caring...wish I could have been there! We're still waiting to hear what my son and daughter-in-law are doing since being put on "leave" with the agency - they're stranded overseas!
As a former federal civil SERVANT, I thank you. Federal workers may be “cogs in the wheel,” but when you break the smallest parts of a really well-run machine with impunity, you BREAK THE DAMN MACHINE.
It was gutting. People who have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place in the name of the United States of America, coming out in tears. 2/
This terrible new administration claims to be fighting fraud and promoting efficiency, but that is just a strategy to give cover to what they’re really trying to do. 4/
What they’re really trying to do is to destroy the idea that we can come together and use science to better understand the world, and then use that understanding to inform action to make the world a better place: healthier, wealthier, happier, more equitable. 5/
The new regime is trying to destroy the entire institutional infrastructure though which that work is done, and thereby to destroy the idea that it’s work worth doing 7/
It's more nefarious than that. They want to privatize science and research which will lead to wildly escalated drug costs which only the extremely wealthy can afford. Selling American IP to the highest bidder and screw American Citizens.
Keep fighting.

It's nice when a billionaire sees their company's stock plummeting. DUMP THE STOCK MOVEMENT!! DUMP SWASTIKAR AKA MAGA, ELON, DOGE STOCK, TESLA, X, SPACEX, AND NEURALINK!
This makes me so happy, I’ve been trying to get folks to do something like this for days! I want to greet workers still at other agencies who must feel terrified and isolated rn. Who organized and how do we keep it going?!?✊😍
Not happy that we have to do this in the first place obvi. But happy that we aren’t letting us scare us into losing our care and humanity for each other.
USAID is THE organization that shows the world that Americans aren’t all assholes.
- we fed the hungry,
- we cared for the ill (especially in high-acuity situations like hemorrhagic fever outbreak in West Africa), and helped trace sources of and contain these outbreaks,
—>>
- we were on the verge of ERADICATING polio worldwide - just as, years ago, we helped eradicate smallpox from the face of the earth,
- we helped establish educational programs at all levels, throughout the developing world,
—>>
- we helped local businesses worldwide become more successful, providing expert advice to help develop more robust local economies.
- all of this was achieved at reasonable cost by training and employing local educators and workers to help lead their nations’ future.
—>>
Dollar per dollar, the goodwill we earned through these efforts did more to protect our nation than any military action.
Shutting down USAID proves to the whole world that we are assholes with more resources than any other nation, but refusing to use them to help others.
—>>
Our gutted educational infrastructure will no longer draw talented students from all over the world; these people will go to universities in Europe, Canada, etc.
Closing America’s research programs will drive our top scientific talent out of the country.
—>>
Just saw this story on the news and want to thank you and everyone who showed up to let the USAID staffers know that they are seen and appreciated by the vast majority of American citizens! Thank you for being there for them, for all of us - you are truly appreciated! Keep up the good fight!
Super love those people. Thank you for your service and sorry about all the current events. We'll set everything back up normal soon. #longliveresistance

These have got to be some of the most caring, devoted, hard working & generous people! I hope they have ways to keep connected & support one another to get together a new effort to continue serving with sincere appreciation for all they do. This must be a new beginning, not an end - Unite!
Thank you for doing that - these are my people. My colleagues. My friends. My family in a sense. You have no idea how much these acts of support and kindness mean to us. It's immeasurable
Busy day. Virtue signaling and then posting about your virtue signaling.
Maybe you can do some fake replies thanking you for your virtue signaling and then posting about it.
Thank you to all who Protests. The power of protests and speaking out makes a difference and it feels good to make noise and "Good trouble" John Lewis" Peacefully✌️
Thank you ❤️knowing all those por people have lost their jobs and are being vilified by GOP at the same time as the people they tried to help are dying is awful... Watching from the UK is frustrating as can only share posts but feels like it not enough. Will have to stop it from happening here in UK
The Reagan building - how ironic. He ran on a promise to slash the federal workforce. Wonder what he would say to this administration… “keep going”, or “are you mad”?
I cannot figure out why ALL #Federal #Workers are not on #Strike in #Solidarity with one another. We are so fractured as a nation, but if we stopped working, we could force #Congress to #Impeach and #Convict because nothing will kill a person more slowly than #Poverty

DOGE’s rampage through institutions has parallels in China’s Cultural Revolution
Jianli Yang
I survived Mao Zedong and the Chinese Communist Party’s purges. What's happening now reminds me of the CCP’s Central Cultural Revolution Group.
