Most of the written responses are from professionals, lawyers and organisations, and to have 79% of responses critical of the #AssistedDying Bill powerfully highlights the inadequacies of the Bill. It's time for the Bill to be rejected so that a properly constituted enquiry can examine the issues.

Introducing a state suicide service - a National Death Service - was in no party manifesto and, other than mysteriously-funded millionaire lobbyists, there's no public clamour to set one up. Let's deal with these important issues maturely and sensibly through an enquiry and Government legislation.

Most polls show between 60% and 80% of the population support the availability of assisted dying. This balance of evidence is interesting but not really statistically significant I feel.

That rather depends what you ask and how you ask it. Assisted Dying is thought to mean end-of-life care by many people, not medically-assisted suicide. Ask people about medically-assisted suicide, you get a different response with most against. Polling is useless, in other words.
