I once looked at a house for sale in Woodstock. When touring the garden a rooster kept stalking me. Then, the owner went around a corner & the rooster jumped up to my waist height and kicked my thigh HARD with both feet. The owner said, "He hates short people." This guy looks a lot like him. ππ
Omgoodness. I was lucky the roosters I trapped had been βferalβ for ~ 6 months, they werenβt aggressive, they were more cautious but knew I was helping them.
lol. This makes me laugh. My hens scream all of the time, before they lay an egg, after they lay an egg, and while someone else is laying an egg even though there are tons of empty nest boxes.
Yeah, mine talk a lot too. When I go down in the morning to feed them they are especially talky. I pretend they are telling me what the other chickens did over night
Do you know best practices for finding a home for roosters? I eat my birds but I don't like them to not have a life first so it's usually 2 or 3 years in and after babies. But the boys can't stick around that long.
I'd like to give them a better chance and home if I could but could never find anyone
I live in a county that has a no kill shelter, for all animals, and they have a few rescues they work with to find homes. They were so impressed with him they said heβd have a home by the end of the day.
I appreciate you responding. We have an no kill shelters but not for birds and I doubt anyone wants me to burden them with 30 roosters every year. I'll continue to look for a solution. Maybe a bachelor flock. They didn't do anything wrong and I dislike processing young birds.
Thank you again.
