This strikes me as an electoral system problem more than anything. I have never heard anything from the U.S. about electoral reform, beyond voters' rights kind of stuff. Nothing about proportional representation, preferential ballots, etc. Is there a low-key electoral reform movement somewhere? - ThreadSky

There can't really be any sort of reform except on a national level because any state unilaterally doing this is basically handing a massive advantage to the other party.

On the national level it requires a constitutional amendment which cannot pass because the status quo greatly benefits republicans and you need a two thirds majority.

If you're looking only at the presidential and maybe congressional elections, then yes. But if you're talking about primaries, state legislatures, city councils, governors, or the millions of other crazy elected officials you guys have (sheriffs, judges, etc.) then the calculus is more favorable.

@leedrutman.bsky.social's @fixourhouse.bsky.social is working for #ProportionalRepresentation here, with @fairvote.bsky.social championing PRCV/STV for the House of Representatives with their Fair Representation Act.

And we in California are working hard to bring it to the state legislature.

There were a large number of IRV or Jungle Primary proposals on the Ballot last november. All of them lost.
