when the IRS was "restructured" legislatively in 1998, the commissioner was given a fixed 5-year term in order to avoid injecting partisan politics into the process (very similar to the 10-year term given the FBI director for all those of you rightly wringing their hands over Kash Patel).

Around the same time, Presidents began to appoint Commissioners experienced in operating big organizations who could manage modernization (Charles Rossotti was the first). Prior to that time commissioners had been tax experts.

The only exception since then was Chuck Rettig, Trump's first commissioner, who was a highly-regarded tax lawyer from Los Angeles. Chuck was an experienced and serious guy who did a great job.

None of us "likes" the IRS but the United States "needs" the IRS to efficiently collect the taxes that are owed. The IRS already has one hand tied behind it's back; Trump wants handcuffs, leg irons, a blindfold and a ball gag, and Long will give him what he wants! Fucking disaster!

From Wikipedia.. Not sure he can spell "audit".. Long was born in Springfield in 1955. He attended the University of Missouri in Columbia before dropping out. Long then attended a nine-day training program at the Missouri Auction School in KS. He received his Certified Auctioneer designation
