Honestly LOVE how little of the advertising even makes it clear that Arcadian is a “monster” movie. It lulls you into thinking it’s a mid-grade Walking Dead episode until it hits the third mark and knocks you flat on your ass with what they’re ACTUALLY up against.
I feel that way about the fucked up carpet monster in the creeping terror except it's not fine i guess it's god awful. But the monster is so delightfully weird
This is how I felt about NO ONE GETS OUT ALIVE and SMILE.
I think in an interview somewhere Clive Barker said he liked VIRUS (1999) because it had an amazing creature at the end and I can get on board with that.
My problem with the empty man was that the first scene was so strong, the rest felt pale in comparison. I need to give it a rewatch though to see if my opinion still holds.
one of my secret little hope projects is a series of movies that are just creature features. there's a main cast who all die in every movie and it just showcases cool monsters
This movie falls into that category. Watched it one night for no reason at all. It was ok, though I don't actually remember much of the plot. But I do remember a very cool lookin creature.
Y'know, I agree. Or even like a new take on some aspect of a common creature.
I watched Abigail 3 times last night, and while it wasn't the best movie ever, I enjoyed it. And the vampiric reaction to the vampire weaknesses was great. Probably the best part of the movie.

Absolutely wild monster design, I was floored
those things were crazy
(Also Malignent, which plays its "bog standard haunting house story" first half so straight I legit forget the first half of the movie.)

The Relic
Probably some other ones that don’t start with R.
But yeah, I loved the twist and the following police station sequence.

Its a great "Meh, its aight" movie for people just dipping their toes into Lovecraftian side of High Strangeness.
