An additional PowerShell Administrator command made Sleep happen. Why such step required in Windows 11? FFS!

I got the screen to blank. Had to use [Administrator] Command Line (how 1997) to do it. Now let's see whether Command Line can also make sleep work properly.

powercfg.exe as administrator in PowerShell. Just run the help; it will be clear. I need to reboot and see whether the settings stuck.

The settings stuck. Why the Win 11 GUI couldn't make settings stick is beyond me. But, this worked.

So Mac has always had a very good story around sleep, but the reason for that is they control the entire ecosystem from silicon to application. I have also had weird annoying issues with managing sleep and hibernation.

Windows has to ask all the hardware/drivers to please sleep and some stuff doesn't play nice. There are also things that you would want to keep the machine from sleeping (e.g., watching video, etc.). Not to mention there are different sleep states. Each with a different level of support.

What happened here is that the GUI controls for sleep or screen blank didn't do anything. I had to use powercfg.exe and now both are working. There are a ton of complaints online about Windows 11 not honoring the GUI settings. Prior versions of Windows handled it, so what went wrong in 11?
