these folks are accidentally enacting harm when they think they're reducing it (and actually think they're NOT being racist when they are). I'm getting some crazy glimpses into how others think and i really hope we can try to educate. it's not a job for Black/Native folks. so if you can, please do.

The problem is getting them to reject the metrics they've based their entire success around aren't entirely fair. At best, you're telling them their success isn't self-made (or their failures aren't other people's fault), at worst they're convinced it's a zero sum game.

It's a LOT of biases in one.

Had a convo last week with a supervisor, griping about an underqualified manager hired and protected by her friend - an executive level leader. He called her a DEI hire. I corrected him - she’s a nepotism hire. DEI is anti-nepotism. He changed the subject. I don’t know how people get it so wrong.
