If a company gets a massive tax break, then that written-off material is OURS. How is it not? Get a tax break on it, we acquire it, plain and simple. You can no longer make money off of it. The art is now public, released, re-released, or not.

Thank god Warner Archive
is working to get as many shorts on home media as possible. The irony is that they are able to do this because there was a massive amount of restorations done for the HBO max launch years ago so the new releases are cheaper with 2 or 3 new restorations per release now.

It should be like books. After 100 years, it goes into the public domain. If a studio pulls it from public viewing at any point, it goes to the public early. If you’re claiming it as a loss on your taxes, it now belongs to the public.

This industry isnt sustainable when the work being produced keeps getting shelved for writeoffs. Z isn't just shelving films. He's fucking up resumes/reels.

I fully agree it's a convo that needs to be had in general but that doesn't apply here since, beyond the fact streaming delistings aren't in and of themselves tax writeoffs, they're still being distributed through Blu-Rays and their partnership with Weigel, among even more places.
