a man coming to our church community space was charged w/ producing child porn. I INSTANTLY banned him (despite his moaning we were a “charity” & we wanted him “sleeping on the streets”) I don’t mess w/ child safety. I don’t understand how churches have got in a mess covering for men like this

Truth is these “children’s programs” are all about fun and not faith formation. Parents have been allowing their children to choose churches for years. I’m a former mega church children’s pastor who saw the light years ago.

Church be busy reflecting back the dysfunctions of culture and fighting culture where it has become more redemptive than it. Still, it has voices that cut through the noise but it is hard at times as you note to hold on to being a people of and with hope. Your voice helps keep that hope alive.

After some bad church breakups, a friend of mine now prioritizes her church not becoming her entire social circle anymore, so that if/when it's time to leave, she's not leaving behind everyone she knows. A wise plan for lots of reasons, I think.

We visited a church that immediately took amazing care of my child with special needs and it was really tempting to stay, but we knew it wouldn't be worth it long term when they prayed for strength in the "battlefield" of the curriculum of public schools.
