If you look at the 50 states on almost any random topic, like 4th grade math scores, or how long you have to wait at the dept of motor vehicles, what you often find is that the "top" states are an almost random mix, rural, red, blue, urban, just a random mix

I’ve been fighting the attack on education/intellectualization/science as well. I do think there is a bit of an elitism problem. That said, if everyone focuses on the pursuit of the correct next step, we’d be so much more well off.

When I was a public school teacher (got pushed out in the '09 recession) we had a phrase,

"Shut the door, and teach."

It meant ignore the nonsense, whatever it is and wherever it's coming from, and focus on the job and kids. Lots of that happening right now, I know.
