A newspaper, notorious for printing* false claims about trans ppl & demonising them, asks why trans kids are so politicised. Sort of, why is the building I poured gasoline over & set on fire, a smoking pile of rubble?

UK newspapers & gutter critter journos are regularly quoted approvingly by reactionary far right US politicians in State Houses, as they remove human rights from children & adults. The Guardian being one of them.
*Last year it was found that UK national newspapers printed about 1,000 anti-trans articles a month. These were fake & malicious false conspiracies. They took anti-trans voices & groups & printed their lies as fact.
Let’s take a look at one of their favourite tropes ‘detransition’. There are about 12 claimed detransitioners in the media, everyone knows their names. They are held up as an example of ‘regret’. For most we have no idea what level of transition they made. At least two just changed their names…
…without doing so legally & took to wearing masculine clothes. We know from 2 of them who have since stopped being spokespeople for anti-trans groups that they get paid by those groups & paid for media appearances & supported to write books on the evils of being trans.
This approach is called anecdotal. Anecdotal evidence has little more to recommend it than visiting a fortune teller! The facts are that about 0.7-0.8% of a people are trans. Of those about 1% detransition due to societal or other pressures [0.007]. Then when we look at that group…
…half retransition again. So that means we are talking of tiny tiny minority of 0.0035 who detransition.
So 99.5% of trans ppl are happily transitioned & do not regret it. The media highlights the 0.5% of trans ppl who allegedly regret it. They never explain that these unhappy people are run by…
I was wondering where you were coming from until I got to the bottom of the thread & saw you were pitching subs to a different pub. You can do that w/out (falsely) running down the most steadfastly supportive major publication in the English-speaking world. I trust the Graun. You? Less so now.
I can’t tell the two apart & if one had any credibility one wouldn’t work for either. If the US employees cared they would have resigned years ago. The Guardian is a neoliberal rag trying to have its cake & eat it. It’s also v racist towards Ireland.
fully agree; and the paternalism towards ireland is unbearable (it was the first thing i noticed after i arrived to ireland in 2009; the disconnect between guardian being nominally to the left, and the fully realised imperial point of view).
Ironically many of the people angry canceling WaPo or LA Times switched to the Guardian. I don’t know many major papers whose opinion pages are NOT at least partly a dumpster fire.
The NYT is a dumpster fire, I do put pressure on their sales people to feedback on how it’s thinly veiled homophobia & transphobia & aren’t they supposed to be better than that. NY is culture capital. I have cancelled twice & each time they come back with cheaper offer! Use https://thejournal.ie
I lived in NYC for a decade & have the usual love/hate relationship with NYT. I do read it, but haven’t been a subscriber since they hired Bret Stephens (told them I was sending my $ to Union of Concerned Scientists and did).
I read a variety of US/Irish/Uk/Europe - was just trialing paid Irish Times because I learned a lot about the General Election, will trial Journal as well.
