Great description as I and my friends felt the same. I remember listening to our local college radio station and it came on and all of us looked at each other like OMFG…much like when Nirvana released Smells Like Teen Spirit…

I remember my friend bought a Smiths album and I went from being politely tolerant to utterly hooked before the first bars of Track 1 had played out.

Like a thunderclap.

Barbarism begins at home is a masterful bass line from the much missed Andy Rourke. Check out the Blitz Vega album Northern Gentleman it’s a masterpiece. Rourke and Joyce as a tight rhythm section don’t get the recognition that they deserve in the Smiths or in the early solo career of Moz.
