This is interesting. Where I live, the only relatively affordable animal protein source is pork. As I don't eat pork, I've reverted to my vegan ways from 2016-2020. When I can get tofu for $1.59/lb but have to pay $3.99 for chicken or upwards of $7/lb for beef, I'll go with the tofu every time.
Tofu has been getting cheaper, I assume because the trade war has created a supply glut of soybeans in the US. My normal 16 oz organic tofu has gone from $1.55 to $1.29 this year so far.
There is a nationwide beef shortage due to drought in the past 5 years. Not governments fault on this one. Sorry but we need to be accurate or we are just like Fox News and DJT.
And at $12 a lb who doesn't think that is a great response to ground beef being almost $6 a lb! What a great idea! A faked product for over twice the price! Brilliant!
I went to Stop & Shop on Friday to get hamburger to make tacos. The lady next to me and I decided to support local taquerias instead. I will NEVER pay these prices. There is always an alternative.
Now that China has contracted with Australia to purchase beef and drop the good US of A for any beef, these prices should be dropping or it is a monopoly.

The trump grift continues!!
When people eventually (not holding breath) realize they’ve completely been snowed … heads **might** roll
Just a hopeful thought.
