From my experience, compassion doesn't make you happier, but it does make you braver which allows for more self-respect. And I suppose there is some joy in courageous action.

I understand that different ppl may experience happiness in different ways, and that’s okay. Each person’s path is unique. But for me, there’s something about being compassionate and wanting others to be free from suffering that brings a sense of fulfillment, joy, and harmony to my heart.

I understand. For me compassion is a major source of unhappiness, anxiety and depression because I can't help all the suffering beings. I was happier in my childhood when I was more selfish and didn't know about all the suffering in the world.

As long as you help others to the best of ur ability, rejoice in it. No human being can alleviate suffering of all beings, but we can pray & cultivate loving-kindness. Rather than dwelling on what you can't do,take joy in the good you're able to bring into the world, no matter how small it may seem.

That would be pride, which is unwarranted and grasping. Everything one does has a dark side to it so there's never any real progress anyway. I guess there's humility and humour in realising this. That's my current unenlightened view anyway... I need to meditate more! Thanks for the chat.

That wouldn’t be pride; there's distinction b/w rejoicing & pride. Rejoicing is a wholesome practice that cultivates joy, while pride is grasping/self-centered. If we don't rejoice in our own virtues, we risk becoming discouraged, fixating on our faults/shortcomings.
