Yes! It certainly is. Didn't expect the same level of set design and effects. We're lucky the show happened at all. Lucille Ball was instrumental. It's the foundation of it all. I watched the original episodes as they aired. I was 11. Definitely left a mark.
All of Star Trek is worth watching IMO. TOS is rather impressive and progressive considering when it came out. Paving the way for so much, not just for Star Trek, but for representation and TV shows going forwards. :D
I always tell people watching TOS to go in remembering what else was going on at the time when the show was airing and what it meant to even have a show like that on TV.
It's got more of a pulpy, campy, "what people in the Swinging '60s thought the future would be like" quality about it, but it's also the source of a lot of the "spirit" of Trek that TNG would later build on. I'd say it is worth watching, as long as you don't try to take it too seriously.
TOS is great, I started Star Trek 2 years ago with Lower Decks and Discovery. After some time, I went back to the beginning to watch it in chronological order, and TOS is the series that has stuck with me most. It isn't always the highest quality, but it's fun and extremely unique. TAS is great too
The show shines because of the dynamic between Spock, who provides the logic, McCoy, who provides the emotion, and Kirk, the leader, who has to get Spock and McCoy to work through their differences to succeed.
its a fun time! but dont take it as seriously as TNG and VOY. Like in tone and silliness of shenanigans id def compare it to early VOY but TOS its ver pulpy ver episodic fun.
I wouldnt binge it tho just like 1-3 episodes a day.
it is, but you need to go into it understanding the political climate of the 60's. there's a big struggle between moving ideas forward and not making the studio execs too angry so each episode is a coinflip between still great and genuinely cringe-inducing
personally i love it bc the cartoonish aesthetic makes a nice offset to talk about some really dark things without it getting depressing (and also enables a few episodes that are just plain fun)
I think it is, with a focus on how they write the characters. A lot of it is really dated, but not due to SFX.
Like on its own as just a show I would give it a miss, but seeing how far Trek has come, and the memes, make it worth it for me.
Dear god some parts are bad though.
