That’s the U3 Unemployment rate, which is good to know. The U6 rate, which includes the under employed is sitting at 8%. Normalize reporting the U6 + the inflation rate of 2.9% which gets you to a Misery Index of 10.9.

I wouldn't say fudged but the layoffs from the government efficiency program are definitely not in those numbers. This was from Feb 12 employment data so any reductions after that wouldn't have been counted.
