Not just people, but potentially robots, too. Why would any Capitalist pay for a human being when they could install an AI automation instead? AI automation never needs sick days, doesn't need vacation or bereavement leave, and never underperforms due to lack of sleep.

That, and there’s a wild mismatch between the skills, location and pay of the jobs that are plentiful and the background and needs of the people looking for work.

An out of work project manager or copywriter can’t pivot on a whim to become a carpenter or a diesel mechanic any more than vice versa.

There are still a ton of jobs open out there. Unfortunately, they almost all suck ass and they’re often not within a reasonable commute of where people are unemployed and actually need jobs.
