At that point, you (and by you I specifcally mean the press) need to realise that they are hostile actors pushing an agenda and stop treating them as valid subjects. There was no need to get drawn into the validity of, I dunno, Anita Sarkeesian's gaming bona fides. That's what they want.

As I explained to my teenaged son at the time, even if everything that was being screamed about was true, the ethical obligation was on the journalist's side, and so the screaming mob should have been going after him if it was really about anything but sexism.

Journalist failures will carry a huge part of future histories trying to understand What Happened. They covered GG and the alt-right aggressively and spread it wider because they did not cover it appropriately. They amplified transphobic bullshit the same exact way
