Sorry to hear that. I do get that it's tricky, and there's no easy solution that will please everyone. But if I have to start going to the office regularly again, it will really mess me up, I think.

💯 I am Autistic and find the entire 3 hour round trip & then all day masking whilst being forced to network/ make small talk totally exhausting. I also have neurodivergent stepkids and they often need to leave school early without notice so office working every day is impossible.

The realisation that remote work works better through asynchronous work centered around shared documents still needs to kick in for many. I'm not saying we're doing that perfectly in my work, but being able to write up a document, sending out a link, and discussing in comments works quite well.

Looking at this week's meetings, 'in person' would entail upward of 12 hours travel time, and significant childcare-related faff. Add in the organisational load of *just* the latter, for all parties and we're talking another day's work.

I'm generally getting away with saying "No" or "Why?" I think some people just haven't thought about it and are saying "in person" because they mistakenly think everyone else likes it.

I have an in person meeting this week because we are seeing up a new group and I think they can help with people getting to know each other so they can work together. We have substantial coffee break time with decent biscuits. For almost everything else, remote gets more done

I'm willing to go along with stuff like that where other people get real value from it. But I find I connect with people just as well over video/chat. (Possibly slightly better because I'm more in control, and less self-conscious.)
