1. Books are not a sustainable revenue source. 2. Books are, however, unmatched in producing a credibility halo effect. 3. Blogging (subtracting etc) actually *can* generate decent revenue, but it takes time to build. 4. Freelancing means poverty, insecurity, and freedom.

Better Know a Beer Cap #32: Kona Brewing in Yellow, with a twist. The logo here is black instead of white, and it includes the phrase "Handcrafted...Kona, Hawaii." 🤔 Help me date this this cap: the extra caption means this cap predates non-Hawaii production, right? So does that mean pre-2008?

Imagine if those trillions of dollars had been invested in idk basically anything that actually makes the world better

I know people have recently been joking here about a possible papal name of Cardinal Pizzaballa (look it up), but I just found literally the most hilarious pope: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Hi...

At Krüger Eck, a local corner pub in Friedrichshain, they have an insanely good beer menu. 10 beers on tap from 8 breweries (4 Berlin and Brandenburg, 4 Bavaria/Franconia), plus a large selection of German and Belgian bottled beers. Started with Nikl Bräu Helles Zwickel, now on Weiherer Urstöffla.

Well, hello there...

See the link for all the stuff we've packed in there—barrel-aged beauties! mindful malting! smoke! malted rice! chicha! session stout!—but I also got hand it to Jamie and our photographer, Matt Graves, for the killer cover.

For @vinepair.com, we asked 12 brewers to name their fave underrated beers. They offered 11 picks — some familiar, some (Carl?) not. Thanks to @thebeerqueer.bsky.social, @terifahrendorf.bsky.social, @julypena.bsky.social and @mitchhoptripper.bsky.social, among others. vinepair.com/articles/wa-...

I have three reviews to go for the Obs but today, after 180 of them, is my last column for OFM. So I thought I’d summarise my searing advice from the last 15 years: the wisdom, the provocations and the occasional stupidities. Enjoy. Or grind your teeth. It's not just for beer. Natalia Svedlund shows how hops can be used to enhance cider flavour (with the right combination of apple and yeast). @tuberlin.bsky.social www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

We're hosting the February edition of The Session which takes place next Friday, on the 28th. This crept up on us a bit (work, life) but we'll share the topic tomorrow. Here's last month's round up to give you an idea of how it works: abetterbeerblog427.com/2025/02/01/t...

After yesterday's findings about "private breweries" in WĂĽrttemberg, I did a bit more research and wrote about brewing in WĂĽrttemberg and how it had its own farmhouse brewing that was even acknowledged in the local parliament: dafteejit.com/2025/02/19th... #beerhistory
