I mean it's pretty and everything but I've got a particularly spiffing pocket watch that I think has it beat, and is much more conveniently sized as well
In 46 BC, Julius Caesar and Sosigenes reformed the Roman calendar into the Julian calendar, introducing leap years and months with varying lengths. The Romans would use this calendar for several centuries.
DST was first adopted en masse during WW1, but in the modern era it does more harm than good.
I'm not sure I agree about DST doing more harm than good. Britain actually tried getting rid of it for a few years in the late 60s. After an uptick in car accidents in the mornings we stopped and went back to DST. Although I'd definitely be interested in trying again. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-11643098
I strongly urge you to read βA scheme of heaven: The history of astrology & search for our destiny in dataβ. And no, itβs not about what you may think it is. The first few chapters will help address your sarcasm and doubt.
Actually the sun also tells the day. Thatβs why we have solar and lunar calendars and the former is actually more accurate. I canβt even start to say how many scientific mistakes this pic has.
Itβs indeed so beautiful. To see a miniature version of this miracle, visit https://www.eisinga-planetarium.nl/ in Franeker, NL. Itβs the oldest working planetarium in the world π
