I know little about WebAssembly...does it cover WASI and non-web use cases too? :)

No, it doesn't cover WASI. It's too big and too much in flux.

We cover the core WebAssembly 1.0 spec + the web and JS APIs. Unlike most other books about Wasm, it's mostly about the instruction set itself, not so much about tooling, use cases, etc.

Hey Patrick, looks interesting! I have a product that does image processing using WASM (compiled from C/C++ with Emscripten). Do you shine a light on WASM performance and profiling? Or is that out of scope because it‘s a runtime concern?

A very good question! I think that's a very interesting topic but no, the book doesn't cover stuff like that. It's very much about getting to know the Wasm instruction set — which would probably be helpful for deep perf work, but the book doesn't cover those topics specifically.
