IMO. If you, the Dr and the patient thought it was a joke then it was not unprofessional. The Dr was trying to build a relationship with the patient. A good thing.

That said. As you feel jokes like that are undermining your integrity you should bring it up with them. You would be right to.

No. Totally unacceptable. Not all jokes are appropriate or funny given particular settings. I would call him out.

I wouldn’t like it if it was done to me. Not appropriate in front of a patient. Perhaps you could highlight your discomfort to the doc some time when you have a quiet opportunity?

I am not a doctor or nurse, but I find this HIGHLY unprofessional. There is no way the patient knows for sure it's a joke. If I was a patient, I'd be uncomfortable and wonder. Not appropriate to even suggest something like that, IMO.

Terrible behaviour, and the doctor should have known they're "joking" about notifiable conduct 🙄🤦‍♀️ - yes I'm that health law and ethics teacher drilling students on the HPRNLA - that doc doesn't want to run into me with a joke like that! 😆
