We funded research on mis/disinformation. For ex: how misinformation about science & medicine spreads in Black communities. The researchers were developing community-driven strategies for combatting misinformation & low trust in science & medicine. 2/

One of the big areas of study in "Science Communication" is how industries like Oil and Tobacco use science (and some scientists) to influence public policy.

The systematic misuse of science predates the field of study of "Science Communication" by decades.
