NSF employees were unlawfully reclassified from career to probationary, and then fired. www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...

I repeat, if you or a loved one was recently fired from the federal government during your probationary period, and the reason you were given was poor performance, please reach out to us at www.centerforemploymentjustice.com. We have a plan and may be able to help you.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Right-wing censors are now "quiet banning" books that they can't removed legally. Librarians in Chicago have been finding books dealing with race, LGBTQ+ issues or Islam hidden under shelves, in trash cans or otherwise "disappeared." www.chicagotribune.com/2025/02/22/l...

Federal workers launch a new site to share inside information about DOGE

Three things that make the U.S. the envy of the world: 1) Professionalized military with strong norm of civilian control 2) Higher education and cutting-edge scientific research 3) Ability to welcome immigrants and attract the “best and the brightest” All three are under threat.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

As some one who interned at the National Academies (NASEM) & later interacted with them via my NSF position, I didn't think my opinion of them could get any lower. It just did: www.statnews.com/2025/02/20/n...

📢 Federal workers serve every community across the country—keeping our air & water clean, caring for our veterans, and making sure our food & medicine are safe. Cutting them isn’t “efficiency”—it’s sabotage. ✊ Take action: go.savepublicservices.com #SaveOurServices

Way more pedestrians are killed by cars in Phoenix (pop 1.6M) every year than riders on the NYC subway (NYC pop 8.8M). PHX: In 2022, more than 300 people were killed by vehicles. NYC subway: 11 homicides with 1 billion riders in 2024

Of course Trump and Musk's "plan" to save money is to fire workers they don't like while spending more money www.propublica.org/article/doge...

NEW: The director of data science and engineering for what is now known as the US DOGE Service has resigned. "If DOGE truly was concerned with efficiency, they wouldn’t have fired experts in procurement," she writes, "who prevent waste up front." This is by @makenakelly.bsky.social

My friend @zombiespaceship on Instagram, who has her masters in library sciences and is damn good at organizing information, has put together a useful resource— a running list of all of Trump’s executive orders, sorted by subject category docs.google.com/file/d/11U3Q...

AOC speaking to a thousand NYC federal workers and allies about the urgency of resisting Musk 🔥🔥🔥

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

Managing foreign policy while only reading/listening to state propaganda. What a stupid disaster

If DOGE is making a simple math error here it is making simple errors elsewhere -- like firing mission critical employees and cutting life-saving programs. There is a reason why government sometimes moves slow, so it doesn't make stupid decisions www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

"These arbitrary firings and failure of leadership directly impact the agency's ability to evaluate and fund good science,"... "[It] is demoralizing for those who remain at the NSF, and will negatively affect the government's ability to attract talent to public service in the future.

"I don't know what NSF is going to be now, but it's not more efficient. It's just a mess." My story on today's firings and their impact. www.npr.org/2025/02/18/n...

SCOOP: Trump administration has been evaluating the costs of destroying or disposing of tens of millions of coronavirus tests that would otherwise be provided free to Americans. My story w/ Carolyn Y. Johnson. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

The NSF Director did not attend the hybrid meeting this morning where they summarily fired 168 public servants without cause - giving them 3hrs to clear out.

We have signs available for purchase now. Bumper stickers too. We need to mobilize and show our support ASAP. Get Elon out of the government and leave our federal employees alone.

An inspiring article on courageous community college leaders who are *publicly* organizing and standing up against DEI attacks.. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

I’m not sure the rest of the country fully grasps the panic and anger building in DC, MD, and VA. The entire economy of this area is about to collapse. Paychecks are stopping. Careers are ruined. Taxes are about to plummet. Yet no one seems able to stop this madness.

A proposal: Academic researchers and folks in similar positions, consider writing an op-Ed, or at least a letter to the editor, in your local paper about what these horrific decisions will do to jobs and services *in your local community*. I train scientists to write op-Ed’s and I can help.

Last night, I opened my undergrad class with: A lot is happening right now that impacts your current or future work plans. What questions do you have that you’d like answered? We started with a diagram of how things usually work & went from there. 🧵/7

Just to be clear, because I don’t think the Post story highlights it enough: This was Trump’s day-one pick to lead the Social Security Admin until his nominee got confirmed who RESIGNED a career job rather than do what Musk’s DOGE team wants. This is Treasury (DOGE) and DOJ (Adams) all over again.
