There have been several completely indoor cats that have died after consuming infected food/milk. At least one of the food brands that was contaminated takes steps to kill viruses/bacteria in their processing- their processing was somehow ineffective at killing H5N1.

Cats don't need any contact with poultry- H5N1 is widespread in wild birds. If an outdoor cat comes into contact with a sick or dead infected bird, or even infected bird poop, they can contract it.

It's also been found in multiple brands of commercial raw cat food, and raw milk.

Thank you, so xfer is related to bird poop or dead birds, can be xfered via cow milk easily because it "falls" into the milk while they are being milked, not because it is endemic in the milk itself?
