Come 1997, Tony Blair's New Labour government - known for its "third way" political ideology - was tasked with its creation. (this will be important later).
Before diving into its contents, let's talk about the dome itself - often overshadowed by its history, the structure is a modern marvel in its own right.
Most importantly, it stands directly over the Greenwich Meridian Line - the place where GMT time begins
It also forever cemented an image of London in my mind as Parliament, and then the rest of the city like the area around the dome. Why I never moved there.
The novelty factor was cool, I remember as a 14yo nerd being impressed with BT's internet stuff there, but it really was a white elephant.
Works really well as "The O2" though - except when you want to get the last tube home after a gig...
