The problem is they are critical infrastructure for 1000s and 1000s of small biz who don’t have the capacity to go elsewhere. They know this & swing their bellends without shame.
They also unfortunately have a complete monopoly on a quality infrastructure for an online storefront. And built-in advantages on google search. It's unavoidable. And I still wish I could go back and undo it.
In terms of functionality, storefront, plug and play design, built in partners, customer support, and price point, it's basically unmatched in Canada. There are alternatives, but I don't think any tick the same number of boxes.
And the customer experience is way above other storefronts too... it's not just convenient for store owners... It's a shame shopify is the only solution like that.
@pierre-polieverer.bsky.social is in lock step with them. These are the broligarchs of Canada. The US government is in the process of being dismantled. The country is on the brink of Oligarchy. This will be bad for MOST businesses. These are the plans for Canada too! https://substack.com/@snyder/note/p-156287745?utm_source=notes-share-action
Shopify, stop gouging Canadian merchants with USD pricing for subscriptions and shipping labels. Currency conversion is killing small businesses, and customers pay the price. If Shopify is truly Canadian, charge in CAD and support local businesses instead of making it harder to succeed.

Getting on the wrong side of this trade war is going to bite a lot of people who don't get how this is pissing off Canadians.
Union busting losers.
