As someone who loves Germany, and lived there 7 years, may I make a point that this map falsely portrays AfD as an East party. This shows who got a plurality, but rest assured there are plenty of AfD voters (7-odd million) in the former West. In BaWu, Bavaria and Rheinland-Pfalz, they finished 2nd

In my limited experience, it's true. I was married to a Belgian national (lol, long story) who grew up in Westphalia and Brandenburg, and whose family is still there. There still seems to be so much resentment toward west Germany for the failed promise of capitalism's rewards?
