Ok imagine the Sims, but they've got AKs, gas masks, and they're crawling through a zone filled with spacial and gravity anomalies, in search of magic crystals
Well... You go buy it too. And play it, buying alone doesn't cut it. This game was amazing 15 years ago, im sure new one will blow everyone's mind. Do it! For your country! Ill definitely do it! Lets goooooo!!! 🚀
It was inspired by Roadside Picnic (1972 by bros Arkady+Boris Strugatsky) wrote up like aliens had had a picnic and left their trash (warped physics) scattered about.
There was also a movie adaptation of the book made by Andrei Tarkovsky (who got half the cast irradiated during filming☢️☠️) in 1979
Most people in the west though the original was Russian, probably quite a few do, although I strongly suspect that the sequel will be a lot more obviously Ukranian.
The games themselves are basically the Tarkovsky Stalker film if it was set in the Chornobyl exclusion zone and had a lot more mutants.
The general idea of zone full of mysteries that can either kill/curse you or make rich/bless is based on Strugatsky brothers novel.
S. Lem, in interview, said "I asked myself, why didn't I wrote this?". The only thing he did not enjoy was the book's ending.
I like to share this story, when possible.
I can highly suggest their documentary on youtube, even for non-STALKER fans its pretty good watch, aswell as possibly showing just how bad the war in your country effects your civilian lives, stay safe friend
It´s heavily based on the Movie "Stalker" by Andrei Tarkovsky. The Movie is basedd on a very good book by Arkadi und Boris Strugazki. I had to read twice over to fully get it because it feels long drawn out but i recommend it.
I’d like to say:
I have only seen Solaris in college ten years ago and I didn’t even make it through the two hours
I feel bad
I will give him another chance one sau
It's like Fallout if it was confined to a specific area, had an "abandoned soviet military base" aesthetic instead of the American retro-futurist kitsch, and took itself more seriously.
While your at it get Metro as well it's made by Ukrainians and is based on a Book written by a Russian thats wanted in Russia for speaking out against the war.
Amongst gamers its an absolute behemot, loads of people were buying the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R game after the full scale war broke out, to support the makers in such a horrific time but also as a F.U. to Putler.
Actually, the long-running Metro franchise is *also* made in Ukraine, as have been several popular indie titles, such as Party Hard and No One Lives Under the Lighthouse. Lot of talented designers working over there.
I still don’t get Stalker, I want to like it but it just feels lacking somehow and I can’t describe why. It reminds me of Ukrainian Fallout but less stuff.
It's so-called "eurojank": a game that doesn't hold your hand but gives you a phenomenally unique experience.
Metro is more linear and polished. Fallout is more approachable and direct. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a strange, inhospitable world full of atmosphere that rewards biting and clawing the fun out.

It’s super cheap and obv made by Ukrainians too c:
And it's a great product from Ukraine
Game adaption of tarkovsky’s 1980 classic film?

Stalker: the world is uncaring and probably ending (bleak)
I'm so excited that Putin didn't take it away from us, even if some aren't here to see it
