I’ve assembled a rag tag team of rivals composed of rough around the edges misfits for a vital mission. It’s going horribly, they can’t work together well and professionalism is sorely lacking, what the hell was I thinking

One challenge going forward is that right wingers live in their own Fox Bubble. That creates a real cognitive problem with getting right wingers to act.

I would simply not reply to potentially malicious e-mails from outside my organization containing purported orders from someone with no legal authority to issue them to me.

FWIW speaking as someone who happily self identifies as liberal and very much not a leftist, I think the effort to blame leftists for 2024 is silly for precisely this reason. There are just vanishingly few committed leftists and their votes didn’t impact the outcome at all

All of the people cheering on Luigi and saying that he did nothing wrong when he executed a premeditated murder make me really uncomfortable. Once you say that he’s justified, I can’t trust that you aren’t going to say political violence against more people is justified, and that’s a real bad path.

Genuinely couldn't believe this figure until I saw the Financial Times confirm it using Meta's own financial reporting data For THIS $100 billion is genuinely the kind of money you could "do the impossible" with. Crack nuclear fusion. HIV vaccine. Universal flu vaccine And they spent it on this

My biggest mistake in thinking about the 2024 election was believing that people would, you know, remember what four years of President Trump was like. The country and its institutions did perhaps too good of a job of resisting him and it made everyone forget who he was.

I respect FIRE’s legal advocacy but reporters really need to stop using FIRE’s rankings unless you truly believe that campus speech is most free in southern states that have banned ideas and concepts from being taught in the classroom

KAMALA HARRIS: you didn't just fall out of a coconut tree... MEDIAN SWING VOTER: yes I fucking did how dare you

The US's primary state enemies now are Canada, Ukraine, and Britain because our voters made their decisions based on TikToks of Kamala's laugh Even if our color revolution were to happen tomorrow I don't see how trust in the American people anywhere in the world recovers inside two generations

You are not going to get me to grant a hypothetical scenario where unionists should peacefully cede D.C. to the confederates.

one of the things the Hungarian opposition had to do was to hollow out the corpse of Jobbik, a neo-Nazi party, fill it with opposition politicians, and use it to try to beat Orban. i really don't want to hear anyone complain about voting for Democrats

They're illegal though!!! This is like saying if you don't want to get robbed you should have robbed someone else!

I really hate the "put up with the grime, it's a city" mindset, but I hate this sort of declinism more. A country that gives up on public transit bc it's scary, and crams more people into cars, is a failure.

If she shitcans Eric Adams she's locking in like 2/3 of the primary vote, which seemed impossible weeks ago.

Happened upon an anti-doge protest outside senator McCormick’s office. You can’t see it here but one of the signs with a picture of RFK jr with a sandworm coming out of his head, saying “he who controls the science controls the universe”

Given that the Presidents have been historically unpopular in the US for the past decade now, I think we should all consider how politics works when nobody actually likes politicians, Congress, or parties. How do you build durable coalitions and pass legislation in an environment like that.

help help i'm libbing out

In the US we've lived with so many absurdities because that's how it's always been and it's hard to change. The Senate & Electoral College, employment-bound health insurance, expensive-by-design housing & bad public transit, and an unaccountable ultra rich class. We *can* have a brighter future.

"Move fast and break things" sounds like some bold techbro vision of innovation, but it's also the same motto of thieves who want to do a smash-and-grab and get the fuck out before anybody can catch them.

Manifestly 2024 demonstrated that campaigns don’t (have to) matter. Harris ran an unbelievably tight ship while Trump limped from town to town, sagging on stage like a bag of dog shit. He hated his audience, danced to show tunes for 40 minutes, sometimes sucked off a mic. He won the popular vote.

i will become a total shill for whichever politician decides to become the joe mccarthy of rooting out silicon valley ideology and influence

changing the terms of employment as a pretext for firing someone would land a used car dealer in court for unlawful termination, most of these firings aren’t going to stand up to even slight scrutiny, but it’ll be a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering to get there

If Trump said he was reinstituting chattel slavery these guys would write an op ed explaining why the 13 amendment allows it. The entire conservative legal movement is nothing but stooping lickspittles bsky.app/profile/anth...

Much that's obnoxious here, but one of the most galling is the idea that they have some claim to "originalism" their critics lack, when once again they do not cite *a single word* from the drafting and ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment. It is not originalism on originalism's own terms.

One thing I want to point out is that ICE ERO is already failing to meet its targets for deportations and is putting up Potemkin villages to conceal that fact. They're overstretched and weak.

someone put their pronouns in their email signature in 2017 and now the world's most irksome Boer has my social security number

On the one hand it's so annoying seeing "Dems aren't saying anything about this!" when it's obviously false. On the other hand, the fact that what Dems are saying just isn't breaking through is a problem unto itself.

As someone who’s been skeptical of AOC, I feel like recently she has stood up for President Biden, campaigned hard for VP Harris, & tried to defend the Democratic Party to her stans who claim she’s the only one Doing Something™️. Tom Homan is being extra creepy about her & she deserves protection.

This fact of constitutional law has been settled and accepted for many decades, but it just so happens that I (along with the new President who politically opposes that fact and rewards his allies with federal judicial nominations) have suddenly realized that everyone else is actually wrong!

This is actually a place where being clear about the different modalities (in particular the difference between text and history) is helpful The text of the Citizenship Clause is very clear. They don't like that, so they're trying to construct an original intent that's different from what it says

Woke HUAC save me...

The free Dem comms consultants online are actually much worse at this than actual dems*

Silicon Valley in general has it, but Musk has particular contempt for jobs where the goal isn't to impress anybody, it's to never screw up. Such jobs are inevitably done best with some overlap and redundancy, which upsets them even more. But cutting those jobs means more catastrophes.
